Happy White Valentine's Day!

Darlings, how was your White Valentine's Day? Did anything special???

You know what, I actually don't have any idea why does White Valentine's Day exist.
So I did some homework, thanks to Grandpa Google. :) Lemme share with you guys these interesting infos! Haha!

Valentine's Day is an annual holiday held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. White Day (ホワイトデー, Howaito dē, a Japanese wasei-eigo) is a holiday celebrated on March 14, one month after Valentine's Day. White Day is celebrated in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and China.
In the countries where White Day is celebrated, the difference between Valentine's Day and White Day is about who gives the gifts. In these cultures, women present chocolates to men as gifts on Valentine's Day. One month later, men are supposed to return the favor by buying two to three times more expensive gifts for the women on White Day.

EDITOrigin of Valentine's Day and White Day

Valentine's Day was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496 to honor Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr. The sending of Valentines (greeting cards) was a fashion in nineteenth-century Great Britain, and, in 1847, Esther Howland developed a successful business in her Worcester, Massachusetts home with hand-made Valentine cards based on British models. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards.
On the other hand, White Day is a relatively new phenomenon created by the confectionery industry in Japan. White Day was first celebrated in 1978 in Japan. In 1977 a Fukuoka-based confectionery company, Ishimura Manseido (石村萬盛堂), marketed marshmallows to men on March 14, calling it "Marshmallow Day" (マシュマロデー). While Marshmallow Day did not succeed as a cultural phenomenon, the National Confectionery IndustryAssociation (全国飴菓子工業協同組合) established White Day as an "answer day" or "reply day" to Valentine's Day exhorting men to return the favor to the women who gave them chocolates and other presents on Valentine's Day. The color white was chosen because it's the color of purity, evoking "pure, sweet teen love", and because it's also the color of sugar. The initial name was "Ai ni Kotaeru White Day" (Answer Love on White Day).

Customs

Women in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan present chocolates to men on Valentine's day. This could behonmei-choko (本命チョコ, "chocolate of love") orgiri-choko (義理チョコ?, "courtesy chocolate"). If the chocolate is hand-made, it is a sign that the receiving male is the girl's "only one".
One month later on White Day (March 14), men are expected to return gifts that are at least two or three times more valuable than the gifts received in Valentine's Day. The term sanbai gaeshi (三倍返し?, literally, "thrice the return") is used to describe this rule. Not returning the gift is perceived as the men placing himself in a position of superiority, even if excuses are given. Returning a present of equal value is considered as a way to say that you are ending the relationship. Originally only chocolates were given, but now jewelry, accessories, clothing and lingerie are common White Day gifts.

No wonder I didn't know anything about White Valentine's Day before! It's mainly celebrated in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China! :D
And I used to think Valentine's Day is the time the guys give presents to the girls to show their love and affection. Now after I googled, it was the exact reverse! O____O WHAT???
Valentine's Day is the time THE GIRLS GIVE SOMETHING TO THE GUYS, and White Day is the time THE GUYS RETURN THE GIFTS.

EH???? Really like this one meh? LOL. In my whole life, all I know is Valentine's Day is a lovey-dovey day and girls get to get lotsa chocolates and flowers. LOL LOL LOL.

I didn't even thought of celebrating this day until my darling Yiguo told me about this Limited Edition Desserts in 3 different places specially on White Day!
She wanted to go for this dessert hunt, which means we will have to go to 3 different places to try out the 3 special desserts in a few hours' time!!!!!!

*Challenge accepted*
So we went on this Dessert Hunt and I kinda regretted it once I walked out because it was so damn cold out there! T______T
The weather has been real awful lately, it is supposed to be Spring already but damn it is just like winter!!!

I guess mainly because the wind in Shanghai is the really humid sort, so it gets into your clothes and bones.

We headed to our first destination: Besyo

They have this amazing-looking love-shaped cake that is limited only on White Day!
Sadly, it doesn't seem to be our lucky day, the LAST ONE just got sold out when we got there!!!!!!! The waiter there was packing up the cake when we were asking about it. So he took out the cake from the box and let us took a picture of it. :)

Didn't get to eat it but got picture also ok la... *console ourselves*

Next stop! Mizzi Cafe! We spent some time trying to find it because it was kinda like a maze inside the shopping mall.

We were so happy when we found it. There were lots of people and loud music blasting inside. So, we hurriedly walked towards it....... and realised......

IT IS CLOSED FOR ITS OWN GRAND OPENING WTF.

They invited some local artists to perform and there are a lot of press inside doing interviews and stuff. Outside also got nice yummy buffet serving. =.=

We were told to come again tomorrow, and they'll give us some free desserts as compensation. T_____T
Free desserts very nice lah, but I want the limited edition one!!!! T______T

So in the end we went to the last destination, 觅糖记, which was also the furthest. Have to take 9 metro stations and walk for 20 minutes to get there. T_____T So far.

Anywayyyyyy it was all worth it because we finally got to eat one Limited Edition dessert!!!!!

The Durian Caramel Egg Pudding!

Since we were kinda pissed off with our bad luck that day. (Walking for one whole hour to 2 places and didn't get our desired desserts) We decided to vent our anger by ordering MORE desserts. Hahahaha!

So we tried out the When Durian Meets Mango. :)

And the Snow Mountain Rose Milk Pudding! :D

I really love this dessert shop! So sad my phone ran out of battery right after I posted the white valentine's day picture on my instagram. So I didn't get to take the interior pictures of the shop. It was so crowded that day!!!!! Their desserts are all perfectly tasty. :) Not too sweet and the texture is so smooth and silky. :) Love it max!!!!!!
Though I dunno if I will come again next time, it's so faraway!!!

Decided to bomb this post with more food pictures. :)))))
This Fish Pot looks crazily yum right? Went there with Hirai last week. We were like WOWWWWWWWWW when they served the dish.

BUT THE SAD THING IS IT ONLY LOOK GOOD BUT DOESN'T TASTE THAT GOOD. :(
The fish has too much small bones, so when I eat even a small piece I almost get choked by the bones FML. T______T

I really really really HATE fish bones. That's why Malaysian sea fishes are more suitable for me.

One more deceiving picture of the fish pot hmph.

If you follow me on my instagram you'll probably seen this already! The super yummy sinfully delicious omelette with potato and carrot fillings! :DDDDD
Cooked by Hirai san. :) Wheeeee!!!
His cooking is the best ever! Nomnomnom!

Going to have lunch with my lil aunt later, can't wait to see her new-born baby!!! And will go to a gig this evening too. See if it's interesting I'll take some pictures and blog about it here. :)

Till then peepo! XOXO!!!
